Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 23, 2026
Introduction
We at Tanjiren ("we", "us", "our") are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and process your personal data when you use our software, website at tanjiren.app, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you acknowledge you have been informed of our practices described in this policy.
1. Personal data we collect
Data you provide directly
- Account information: your name and email address when you sign up through a supported authentication provider (e.g., GitHub or Google).
- Payment information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, our payment processor collects your billing details. We never see or store your card number.
- Communication information: your name, email, and message content if you contact us.
Data collected automatically
- Device information: device type, operating system, app version, and hostname when you link a desktop instance to your account.
- Usage data: anonymous, aggregated page views and performance metrics collected through cookieless analytics. This data cannot identify individual users.
- Error data: when an error occurs, our error monitoring service may receive technical context (browser, OS, error stack trace) to help us fix issues.
Data we do not collect
Your code never leaves your machine. The Service connects to your desktop application — it does not upload, copy, store, or proxy your source code through our servers. When using the cloud relay, terminal I/O is forwarded in real-time but is not logged or stored.
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16 years of age.
2. How we use personal data
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including authentication, device linking, and remote access features.
- To process payments and manage your subscription.
- To communicate with you, including responding to support inquiries and sending service-critical notifications.
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- To understand how the Service is used through anonymous analytics, so we can improve it.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
3. How we share personal data
We may share your personal data with third-party service providers who help us operate the Service, including authentication, hosting, payment processing, cloud infrastructure, error monitoring, and analytics providers. These parties process data only as necessary to perform services on our behalf.
We may also disclose personal data if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of users, or in connection with a business transfer (e.g., merger or acquisition).
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share personal data for cross-contextual behavioral advertising.
4. Cookies and tracking
The Service uses a session cookie for authentication — this is strictly necessary for the site to function. We also store your theme preference (light/dark) in your browser's local storage on marketing pages.
Our analytics are cookieless and do not set tracking cookies or persistent identifiers. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
5. Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the Service and fulfill the purposes described in this policy. When data is no longer needed, we delete, anonymize, or de-identify it in accordance with applicable law.
6. Security
We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data; to object to or restrict processing; or to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@tanjiren.app. We will respond within 30 days.
8. International transfers
Your data may be processed outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we rely on legally valid transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will publish an updated version and effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any change constitutes acceptance.
